A View from the Mountains
The Oscar Reinhart Foundation
20 minutes, color, age range: 14 - adult, #353

Set in the heart of Europe, Switzerland shares much of the culture of its neighbours, yet retains its distinct individuality, shaped by the mountains to which it owes its existence. The Oscar Reinhart Foundation in Winterhur, while containing magnificent paintings from other countries, also houses a 'local' collection celebrating that special 'view from the Alps.' This video, filmed on location in Switzerland and from original paintings, illustrates work by many of the major and unfamiliar artists exhibited there - Swiss painters such as Wolf, Böcklin and Hodler, the great Romantic artists Runge and Friedrich, the Austrian Waldmüller and others - and records the landscape which inspired some of their greatest works.
