Paul Klee Villa R
Klee's position among the great painters of this century is unique. He neither founded a new style nor belonged to a modern movement. His achievement was not so much concerned with the manner of painting, but with its content. His influence, though not immediately evident, has been perhaps the most widely felt of his time. The script of this film was written by Professor Will Grohmann, a personal friend of Paul Klee and the leading authority on his work. It shows selected examples taken from nine thousand works created by Klee, and groups them together not chronologically but by subject matter. The commentary describes Klee's life, his relationships and the different stages in his artistic career - Blaue Reiter, the Bauhaus, the art academy in Düsseldorf, the end of his life in Berne. Interpretation is kept as concise as possible, giving the viewer time to compare the different pictures with the suggested interpretations and so gain personal and direct access to Klee's work.
