Caspar David Friedrich Mountaineer in a Misty Landscape
In 1987 The National Gallery in London bought Winter Landscape by Caspar David Friedrich, a German landscape painter. Like so many of his paintings, it is full of a sense of mystery. Friedrich's paintings are not well known in Britain, and this was the first oil painting by him to enter a public collection in England. His life and the development of his extraordinary landscape imagery are the subjects of this production.
