Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot The Roman Campagna, with the Claudian Aqueduct
Like Constable, Corot was one of the first artists to take his easel out of doors. Like Constable again, he developed a new approach to landscape painting through his sensitive treatment of light, form and distance. This film is concerned with his visit to Rome in 1825 and his interest in Poussin. It shows his early historical compositions and his later landscapes; it also attempts to assess his place among other great landscape painters of the English, Dutch and Barbizon schools, such as Constable, Hobbema, Millet, and the impressionist Sisley.
